MIT scientist and engineers have discovered a breakthrough by implementing a simple concept. With the advancements in technology now scientist are able to understand how to capture more energy. It is common knowledge the best way to capture or contain the most of an element is with a funnel. Funnels work because gravity is pulling on the material; however, solar funnels work by electronic forces. The team worked with a material to create a film only one molecule thick which can be used to make solar cells or integrated circuits. The recent developments of atomic force microscopes and nanomechanical instruments have provided the team with the tools necessary to apply controlled accuracy.
The computer model of the solar funnel process is able to work by placing the material under elastic strain. This strain causes the material to undergo a characteristic change; the change enables different sections to respond to different colors, and then gather them at the films center.
