This project was developed by Sun Edison. Our installation team handled several electrical components of the project, which included wiring combiner boxes, troubleshooting string wiring, performance testing of solar strings to specifications, and general electrical tasks throughout the site. The crews wired approximately 254 combiner boxes (24-string) at 15 minutes per unit. Personal Protection Equipment (PPE) was utilized as soon as the wires were energized. Lock-out and tag-out procedures were used to identify energized components and increase safety precautions per OSHA requirements. The project was completed on-time and on-budget. This project’s design, scope, and access to local resources were similar to the Palmdale solar farm. Our installation team needed to be especially efficient with the allocation of labor to meet the installation timelines and quality expectations. The job scope also included the interconnection build-out, including underground, a power pole, switchgear, and a 38kV gang switch. The electrical work was sequential and organized: mounting combiner boxes, grounding solar modules and equipment, pulling home runs, mounting inverters & transformers, installing the switchgear and the power pole, pulling & terminating underground Medium Voltage cable, pulling and terminating all low voltage cable from combiner boxes, inverters, and secondary stages of the tranformers, completion of the communication & weather station equipment, and finally, connecting PV strings and energizing the entire site on both the DC and AC sides of the inverters. The project materials included polycrystalline panels and single axis trackers. System DetailsNumber of panels: 8,300 Lifetime Environmental Benefits
